A recent piece in the Wire reminded me of Seymour Wright's fantastic 2008 solo release, a very fine record "improvised and about the saxophone - music, history and technique – actual and potential." He uses fans, radios, and maybe some other extensions to simultaneously explore and extend the saxophone's history, but always in a fascinating and musical way. Electro-acoustic improvising godfather Keith Rowe (a founding member of AMM) has written some notes to explicate a recent performance and CD in very precise detail, revealing a wealth of symbolic weight and correspondences. Read it here.
