A recent piece in the Wire reminded me of Seymour Wright's fantastic 2008 solo release, a very fine record "improvised and about the saxophone - music, history and technique – actual and potential." He uses fans, radios, and maybe some other extensions to simultaneously explore and extend the saxophone's history, but always in a fascinating and musical way. The recording is available fully free at seymourwright.com. Download it!

I also see that the Wire is offering some previously unreleased Wright tracks for streaming here.

Keith Rowe essay

Electro-acoustic improvising godfather Keith Rowe (a founding member of AMM) has written some notes to explicate a recent performance and CD in very precise detail, revealing a wealth of symbolic weight and correspondences. Read it here.

These notes are part of a new site, ErstWords, curated by Erstwhile Records to provide interesting texts related to Erstwhile Records specifically and hopefully other topics more generally. We're keeping an eye on it.
